Sinopsis

Nepregledna kazahstanska stepa. Sedamnaesto stoljeće. Ratna vremena. Dječak po imenu Mergen prisiljen je odrasti i brinuti se o svojoj obitelji, dok mu je otac na ratištu, a suseljani ne žele pomoći. Baksy, Mergenova baka, daje mu svoj dar jer je on jedini muškarac koji je ostao da ih zaštiti. Kazahstanski glasnik donosi žurnu poruku za lokalnog vladara, što ugrožava dobrobit obitelji. Niz događaja stavlja život i smrt na vagu…

The great Kazakh Steppe. Seventeenth century. Times of war. Rođen je 21. veljače 1994., jednog sunčanog ponedjeljka u Almatyju u Kazahstanu. Od ranog djetinjstva volio je Lego, i kao dječak izmišlja scenarije inspirirane omiljenim stripovima i snima scene uz pomoć kockica i filmske kamere. U školi se bavi plesom i amaterskim kazalištem. Godine 2017. diplomirao je režiju na Kazahstanskoj nacionalnoj umjetničkoj akademiji T.K. Zhurgenov, a 2019. završio je pripravnički staž na Filmskoj akademiji NYFA u Los Angelesu. U svom prvijencu Mergen autor se okušao u žanru folklorne fantazije s osvrtom na jedno od najtežih razdoblja u kazahstanskoj povijesti.

was born in 1994, on the 21st of February, on a sunny Monday in Almaty, Kazakhstan. From an early childhood, he loved Lego and as he got older, he tried to create mise-en-scenes and tell stories like in his favorite comics with the help of a construction kit and a film camera. During his school years, he was fond of stage fighting, dancing and performing in amateur theater. In 2017, he graduated from the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov with a degree in directing narrative film, and in 2019 he completed an internship at NYFA, in Los Angeles. In his debut “Mergen”, the author tries himself in the genre of folklore fantasy with a reference to one of the most difficult periods in Kazakh history.
